Come Follow Me

I made these for my Sunday School class for my lesson on February 3, 2019. The larger tree I taped on the chalkboard. I made handouts for the class.

When I was a youth I loved getting handouts from my teachers and leaders.

My testimony

I wrote this four and a half years ago and I came across it today on my computer and thought I should post it on this blog.

Thoughts for the day written on 11/15/09
by Kristi Harmon

~I am thankful to be who I am. I am thankful for the wonderful heritage that I have and all the wonderful blessings here on this earth. I am thankful for my loving Father in Heaven and his only begotten son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and our beloved Redeemer. So many things are recorded in the scriptures, but as in Jacob he writes about the prophets of old and he himself can only record but a little.

~A few days ago I was picturing in my mind the Saviors life and all He did and I had the thought and feeling come over me that He most likely did so much more, yet there are no other records besides what we have in the scriptures. We know of His life through the prophets and apostles. We can feel of His life through the help of the Holy Ghost. We can prayerfully study the scriptures.

~We have such beautiful literature, true and wonderful. We have the Old Testament, the New Testament, the Book of Mormon, the Pearl of Great Price and the Doctrine and Covenants. We also have the help of the Topical Guide and the Bible Dictionary. Each month we can enjoy the Ensign, The New Era and the Friend. Twice a year we have General Conference and can read it online on the church website even before it comes out in the May and November Ensigns. I can not forget to mention all the inspired literature from leaders of the church.

~The list can go on. There is so many ways to become more edified and our spiritual growth can increase ever so much. I always pray before I read my scriptures. I ask for the spirit to be with me and help me to understand and to also remember what I read. I do not only expect to understand the scriptures with prayer alone. I must also take the time to study what I am reading. Cross referencing is critical to comprehend and learn.

~It is amazing to me how the Holy Ghost is a guide and we can have the sweet promptings and personal revelation that we need in our own lives as we read the scriptures and the spoken word from our prophet today and other leaders of our church. So many times as I am reading the scriptures thoughts come to mind, answers to things I had been praying about.

~I feel impressed to mention that I thank my Father in Heaven in prayer for the desire to read my scriptures and prayer to have that desire continually. One sweet pleasure I have is before an endowment session in the temple I choose to get there early enough to read the scriptures before we are led to the session. Afterwards I love to sit in the Celestial room and continue to read. It is so great and the spirit is so strong.

~I love to be in the temple and I grow so much each time I am there. As a youth I thought it was the neatest thing to do Baptisms for the Dead. That was a choice and blessed experience. Two months before my twentieth birthday on May 11, 1996 I went through the temple for the first time. I had worked hard to be worthy. I knew I was worthy.

~I balled as I went through the veil. Family and friends were there. My young women leaders and one of my friends from my ward that I grew up with was there. Even one of my friends from my singles ward was in attendance also. VerRona and Erika wanted to know what was wrong. I said nothing was wrong. I felt so wonderful and great. I was so happy. I felt like I got my first glimpse of Heaven. I am crying now just writing about that and my memories. I have cried many times in the temple.

~I know it is important to be worthy to enter Gods Holy Temple. There is so much to learn and the Holy Ghost will help when we are worthy and ready. I love the fact I get to do for someone that has no chance to do it on earth. They are not here on the earth to partake of the everlasting covenants that we by proxy have the sweet blessing to serve them and do the work for them. Then and only then do they get to partake of those ordinances. What a great act of charity we do. God loves His children and set the way so all His children can have the opportunity to receive all that there is. We all can have the chance to live with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and our loved ones. Through temple work families are bound to each other.

~There are many ways to serve as member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Our callings and positions can be such a wonderful learning and spiritual growing experiences. Some may seem hard or we may feel inadequate. I have felt that way at times. Yet there is hope if ever you are in doubt. If you live worthily and repent continually, pray always and study the scriptures and do what you can then it becomes easier. Then you are not doing it alone. We have God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. Those three will help and they do help in countless ways.

~We can be so blessed when we serve and love others. We have been counseled to pray for those we serve and we will love them. It is true. Try it and see how great it can be.

Happy Easter of 2014

I love the Savior, Jesus Christ.
I am thankful for what he did for me.

I have plastic eggs and candy for the kids.
We'll have a nice dinner. Yet the main reason for Easter
is not to hide eggs and see what candy you can get.

When the Savior died he fulfilled His mission.
He suffered and died for all of us.
He was resurrected and He lives.

So eggs are a way to think about new life.
A chicken hatching out of her egg.
A cute little bunny entering this world.
Lots of pretty flowers are blooming everywhere.

Our family will go to church like we do each week.
Yet on Easter the messages will be all about Jesus Christ.
Most of our household participates in the choir
so we'll sing a beautiful song about the Savior.

I hope you all have a great Easter this year and remember why we have Easter. To celebrate the life of our Redeemer, Jesus the Christ.

Merry Christmas

I love Christmas. It can be stressful and I go to work even when sick so I can provide presents for my girls. They are getting a lot of practical stuff that they need anyways. This time of year is perfect for baking cookies and making other goodies to give away and enjoy with my family. It's a fun time to enjoy hot chocolate and spend time with my children. It is very relaxing and enjoyable to put on Christmas CD's or simply listen to the Christmas songs on the radio. Some times I turn off the CD or radio and just sing Christmas songs with my kids while driving to their schools or whenever. I still love to see a house with lots of lights just like I did when I was a child. I have a candle burning as I write. I am about to go to work and then my family and I are going to attend a Christmas party at my church. I signed up to bring cookies, so I plan on making them after work. I am very blessed to have the capability to earn an income. Even when days like to today I would rather be home.

I mostly love being able to celebrate the life of Christ. I love the Savior and redeemer of the world. The atonement is the greatest gift I can ever have. Better than any material gift I could ever receive. Knowing what the Savior did brings more joy than I could ever describe. Peace oversteps the trials if I only trust in the Savior, Jesus Christ.

Have a great Christmas and may everyone enjoy the life we have.

Poem: About our Savior

Before Christ was born He was known
Many prophets taught that our sins He will atone
He came to earth so we can live again
He died for all children, women and men
Our Savior, Jesus Christ, feels our pain
For He did not suffer and die in vain
He loves each of more than we can ever try to understand
For we see the nail prints in His mighty hands
He is the truth and the light
Yet there is a power darker than night
Who knows mankind with unknown powers
He tempts and taunts us throughout the hours
Our Savior wants us to succeed each day
To conquer the darkness and choose Christ’s way
To follow Him and to faithfully endure
And try to remain clean and pure
Through repentance and a broken heart
For Christ needs us to do our part
The way may be difficult it may seem
That is why our Savior died for our sin’s He did redeem

Love~Wisdom~Trust

I would like to write about Love
Not just any kind, it is from above
It’s about the love of our dear Father
Our Heavenly Father, who loves us as no other
He sent a perfect example of how we should be
To someday gain the reward of celestial eternity

Next I write about Wisdom
The wisdom it takes to return to His kingdom
We came to earth to learn and to grow
Through our trials and mistakes we come to know
Of His loves He shows through the repentance process
His son, Jesus Christ, died so we could obtain forgiveness
Not only does our Father in Heaven has love for you and I
Our Savior proved His great love the day He died

Last I write about Trust
To have faith in God is definitely a must
He showed the way so we now should follow
The pathway of the Iron Rod for all our tomorrows
We were bestowed the greatest gift and treasure
So awesome and great we cannot dare measure
I so trust my Savior and my Father in Heaven
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen

My dear Savior

I fall at your feet,
I am a lost little sheep,
I ask of thee,
I ask that thou would love me,
I desire of thee to hear my prayer,
I give thanks my dear redeemer!

Poem: Someone

Someone died
Someone took the pains that we have
That selfless Someone was crucified

Someone led the way
Someone gave His all
What wondrous love that Someone displayed

Someone loves me
Someone loves you too
That glorious Someone has set us free

Someone is very near
Someone is the source of light
That marvelous Someone will lend an ear

Someone inspired me to write this story
Someone touched my soul
That magnificent Someone gave His Father glory

Poem: My Special Gift

I’ve been given a gift
That touches my heart
That blesses me so
That I dare would part

The gift that I have
That I love so dear
Is being that of a mother
It brings to my eye so many a tear

They were given to me
To raise all life through
To love, teach and guide
Be a friend for them too

I have plans for my children
To yet come to my home
To give them a life
Heaven is where they now roam

I love them now
I think of those precious children
Who need me, their future mother
To show them Christ’s plan

What a special gift
To call these children mine
To love all my children
Through the rest of time

Poem: In Memory of our Grandmother

Because of our Savior's love
Our Grandmother will be,
With all those
Who love her in eternity.
She will be embraced
With welcoming love,
By those who have been
Waiting for her from above.
Yes she is missed by,
So many that are here today.
She was indeed loved
In so many ways.
She is a daughter, a sister,
An eternal wife, a mother,
A grandmother, a cousin,
a niece, and aunt,
A friend, an example,
A daughter of God!
Because of our Father in Heaven,
She came to earth.
To learn His plan, to grow in faith,
And endure holding onto the rod.
This poem is written in love,
For our Grandmother...
Rosetta Belle Hardy
And for all those who love her so.
Especially her Savior, He loves her
Because of Him there is hope.
For all of us here comes the
Promised blessings of eternity.
I mourn at her passing,
Like so many of you,
Yet we know that someday
We will see her again,
If we endure to the end like,
Our Grandmother holding onto the rod.

I was blessed with the great opportunity to know my Grandma Hardy and love her very much. I was asked to write a poem for her funeral. After prayer and much thought these words came to mind. I hope to see her again someday and my other relatives who were here before me.

Poem: THE TEMPLE

There is a special place
I enter in
To help bring celestial life
To all women and men
The place is beautiful,
Divine and sacred
While there I am being
Spiritually fed
I knew I would go there since
I was a small child
To be ready we must be
Humble, meek and mild
Repentant and worthy
With a prayerful mind
Answers to questions,
Personal revelations to find
I have gratitude for the blessings
To able to enter therein
To feel close to our Father
While in there the veil is thin

Poem: OUR SAVIORS LOVE

Our Saviors love for us is very great
He is our wonderful and awesome magistrate
He gave His life so we might be
Happy for all eternity

Our Savior did what no man could do
He redeemed our sins for me and you
He suffered them in Gethsemane
So we may be set free

Our Savior bled from every pore
Through Him He has opened up the door
So we should open up our hearts to Him
To defeat Satan and win

Our Savior is mightier than all the earth
He knows our potential. He knows our worth
We should rise and be like Him today
For that is the only way

Our Savior wants us to share the light
He set the way so we might
Live with our Father up above
All because of His love

Poem: DAD

This poem is dedicated to our dad, Daniel Lamar Harmon.
We love him and are thankful to be called his daughter or son.

A dad, husband, grandpa, son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend.
Through faith we know he will be all those forever without end.

He loved, served, taught, blessed, and sacrificed for his family.
He was an example to many and will be for all of his posterity.

Heavenly Father sent us to earth and gave us to our mom and dad.
We are thankful for choice parents, the love that we have all had.

Our dad departed from this life in peace and what peace that does bring.
The knowledge that he did not suffer is a sweet and cherished blessing.

He fulfilled life’s mission here in on earth, even though it is very hard.
We miss our dad, our hearts are heavy, we were all caught off guard.

Our Savior, Jesus Christ, through the atonement paved the way.
He is in the hands of the Lord. We know we will see our dad someday.

Our sweet and wonderful dad we love you with all of our heart.
The memories of who you are and the love for you will never part.

Written by Kristi Patterson January 12, 2011

I wrote this poem for my dad who passed away on January 9, 2011 six days after turning 64. He was a wonderful man and father. I read the poem during the funeral. I prayed many times at what to write and I prayed I could read it well without crying too much. I was thankful I had the chance. I miss my dad very much.
